Press Conference on Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and ASEAN, the 18th China-ASEAN Expo, and the 18th China-ASEAN Business & Investment Summit Held in Beijing
In Beijing on July 29, the State Council Information Office of the People’s Republic of China held the press conference on economic and trade cooperation between China and ASEAN, the 18th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO), and the 18th China-ASEAN Business & Investment Summit (CABIS). Ren Hongbin, Assistant Minister of Commerce, Zhang Shaogang, Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), and Liu Hongwu, Vice Governor of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, respectively introduced the economic and trade cooperation between China and ASEAN, basic facts of the 18th CAEXPO, the highlights of the 18th CABIS and new developments in the preparation, and facts of Guangxi’s opening-up and development. They then answered questions from the media.
Vice Governor Liu Hongwu stressed that CAEXPO and CABIS, after 18 years of cultivation, have grown into a significant platform for China-ASEAN opening-up and cooperation, playing an active role in the new development paradigm. First, they have consolidated the platform for high-level dialogues and deepened the China-ASEAN strategic partnership; Second, they have upgraded the platform for economic and trade cooperation, promoting the upgraded growth and commerce cooperation between the two sides; Finally, they have helped expand the functions of the “Nanning Channel”, speeding up the launch of New Land-sea Corridor, pilot free trade zones in Guangxi and other major programs. With successful progress made in the preparation of CAEXPO and CABIS, the People’s Government of Guangxi, supported and guided by the Organizing Committee of CAEXPO, will make great efforts to organize this event and make contributions to the China-ASEAN community with a shared future.
Vice Chairman Zhang Shaogang remarked that this year marks the centennial of the Communist Party of China, the beginning of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, and the 30th anniversary of China-ASEAN Dialogue Relations and the Year of China-ASEAN Sustainable Development Cooperation. In such an important year, the success of the Summit will boost pragmatic cooperation in industrial and commercial fields under this new situation, and closer ties of the China-ASEAN community with a shared future. This Summit will be held in Nanning, Guangxi on September 10-11, in accordance with the four-point proposal made by President Xi Jinping at the Opening Ceremony of the 17th CAEXPO and CABIS last year. Besides the opening ceremony of this Summit, this year will also witness the events of the Round-table Dialogue between State Leader of Laos and CEOs from China, the China-ASEAN Business Leaders Forum & Special Meeting on the 30th Anniversary of China-ASEAN Dialogue Relations and the Symposium on China-ASEAN Commercial Legal Cooperation. These events will increase the consensus of the China-ASEAN community with a shared future, lift the participation level of the ASEAN business community, promote the recovery and prosperity of regional economy, and level up the cooperation in China-ASEAN business community.
Assistant Minister Ren Hongbin, Vice Chairman Zhang Shaogang, and Vice Governor Liu Hongwu respectively answered journalists’s questions about how China improves the bilateral economic and trade cooperation, how CABIS enhances the cooperation between business communities within the region, how CCPIT facilitates the development of the China (Guangxi) Pilot Free Trade Zone, and how Guangxi advances the New Western Land-Sea Trade Corridor construction.
